There may still be hope for a Palworld PS5 release in the future thanks to a bunch of interaction between Sony and the developers of Palworld. However, we have no idea how long this could take to come to fruition, if it even happens at all. So, in the meantime, we've chosen some games like Pokémon and Palworld that are on PS5 that are available to play right now.

5 games like Pokémon and Palworld to play on PS5

The TrueTrophies writing team — that's Editor Kes and Staff Writers Lee and Sean — had one goal here: to pool together our shared experience and craft a list of the best PS5 and PS4 games that can tide you over until Palworld, maybe, comes to PlayStation. So, we hope at least to provide you with some Pokémon-like vibes on Sony's machines.

Let's check out five games like Pokémon/Palworld that you can access on PS5, right now!

Temtem

  • You can find the TemTem trophies here
  • Publisher: Crema
  • PS Plus?: No
Temtem is a huge creature-collection adventure set in a multiplayer universe. You'll be meeting a variety of vibrant Temtem and using them in battles against other players online in the hopes of being crowned the Temtem champ (alright, that's just something I made up). You'll adventure around the wonderous Airborne Archipelago alongside your Temtem squad. Your time here will be very reminiscent of Pokémon with you catching Temtem, battling other tamers, customizing your house, helping out your friends, and exploring a vast online world.

The trophies are going to take a lot of work — like an obscene amount of work. Currently, the platinum trophy 'Archtamer' has an overall completion rate of 0.20% on PSN. A lot of the trophies relate to finishing certain objectives while in a party of other Temtem players (like, real people).

You will also need to find and hatch all of the different Temtem in the game, something that will take a substantial amount of time. Thankfully, the game is solid and a really good time. So, if you want that Pokémon/Palworld experience, we recommend booting this one up!

Digimon World Next Order

  • You can find the Digimon World Next Order trophies here
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • PS Plus?: No
The only franchise capable of standing toe-to-toe with the Pokémon franchise for even a second, Digimon remains the go-to series for edgy Pokémon alternatives. Many games in this series have their own distinct flavors about them — just check out the horror-tinged visual novel Digimon Survive for a potent example. However, for those looking for something closer to the Pokémon formula, you’ll want to check out Digimon World Next Order.

Now, there are a few caveats I need to stress upfront. One of them is that this is a remake of a largely superior PS1 game, and if you have the means, I say just check that out instead. Secondly, those Digimon World Next Order trophies are some of the meanest you’ll find on the PS4. Thirdly, this game is a tough, grindy old beast. Finishing it will take a lot of patience and trial and error, trust me.

That said, Next Order offers a great spin on the Pokémon monster training formula. Instead of a roster of largely impersonal beasts, you get two Digimon who grow, transform, and straight-up die based on how attentive you are to raising them. To master the game, you’re going to have to raise your Digimon to a pretty hefty level, then use that brief window of strength they have before they die to make a tiny bit of progress in the game’s massive world.

The result is that you become a lot more personally invested in the monsters you raise, making the experience feel a lot more hands-on than Pokémon. It’s also got a darker anime-like story to enjoy and a lot of interesting locales to explore (when was the last time you boarded a digital ghost ship in a Pokémon game?). It’s not to everyone’s taste, but I found a lot to enjoy in this retread of a PS1 classic.

  • You can find the Nexomon trophies and Nexomon Extinction trophies here
  • Publisher: VEWO Interactive
  • PS Plus?: No
Nexomon, just like Pokémon, will have you exploring a vast world and capturing creatures that you will then use in battles against other trainers just like yourself. I mean, it doesn't get much more Pokémon-themed than that does it?

The games are of superb quality and really harken back to the good old days of playing Pokémon Fire Red or Pokémon Emerald Green on the Gameboy Advance. If that sounds like the sort of thing you want to play on PlayStation, then you best jump on these titles! You're seriously missing out!

The bulk of the trophy list consists of you capturing all of the different Nexomon and beating all of the different tamers (trainers). You will also need to beat the game for a second time to earn the gold trophy 'Destroy Omnicron (For Real).' Currently, the platinum trophy 'Nexomon' sits with an overall completion rate of 10.80% on PSN.

Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch

  • You can find the Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered trophies here
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • PS Plus?: No
Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch is bizarrely like Pokémon. This gorgeous JRPG saved the genre for the PS3 generation and, when the remaster came to PS4, it meant we would have access to it on PS5 as well. With animation by the wonderful Studio Ghibli, Ni No Kuni features young boy Oliver as he journeys to a fantasy world in a surprisingly morose tale.

The Pokémon comparisons stem from the battle and party system. Oliver meets familiars — cute little creatures — that can be tamed and used in battle. By using your familiars in battle alongside Oliver, you'll all level up and your abilities will slowly improve. Sound familiar?

Then, in the world map, a giant Oliver will move around a micro-sized world in the third person where it is possible to run into random enemies. More intimate levels bring the camera closer to Oliver as things play out in a 1:1 perspective. It's smart, it's satisfying, and has that sense of Pokémon adventure.

Just because there are similarities to both Pokémon and Palworld, that doesn't mean Ni No Kuni isn't something fresh and innovative. It's a complex JRPG with satisfying progression and fun side quests. The story, despite featuring a child, is seriously adult in theme and we love how emotionally complex it gets. This is an era-defining JRPG, so give it a go!

Monster Crown

  • You can find the Monster Crown trophies here
  • Publisher: Studio Aurum
  • PS Plus?: No
Let's get the worst part of this game out of the way. Those trophies are unfortunately part of our PS4 unobtainable trophies guide. So, if you're an avid trophy hunter (like myself) then you may want to avoid this game altogether. Monster Crown is competent, has a lot of great ideas, and is the perfect title to escape into for some Pokémon-esque shenanigans.

Monster Crown sees you delving into a dark world where monsters run rampant and rule the lands. In order to bring peace to Crown Island, you'll need to make pacts with the various monsters and work with them to defeat an evil young woman seeking to harness power beyond humankind's understanding. So, be ready to hunt, battle, tame, and breed monsters to create a powerful force capable of saving the world. It sounds so good! Why are those trophies broken?

That's all the games we have for you right now. Are there any titles that you would add to this list? Have you played any of the games listed here? Are there any you think deserve to be on our best PS5 indie games list? Let us know all your thoughts and feelings in the comments below!
